11./// equipment to protect healthcare workers is in high demand during this pandemic?

But in low supply.

Here inside the mayo clinic st marys building is the ?d anatomic modeling laboratory.

The lab prints all sorts of things to help mayo physicians.

And soon?

It may begin printing masks?

Respirators?

And ventilators to help healthcare workers and coronavirus patients.

Here's a look at the lab recently making a 3d model of the virus.

I spoke with the lab's medical director dr. jonathan morris.

He says utilizing 3d printing could be a creative take to help catch the supply of personal protective equipment up to the demand.xxx up until about 2 months ago, its just not something we think of.

We think as physicians that everything we need to grab off the shelf is always going to be there, but it turns out in this pandemic that's not true it's not as simple as printing gear and distributing it to healthcare staff though.

Dr. morris tells me this will be a long?

Rigorous process to test any potential products to make sure they're safe and effective?

And the last thing the lab wants is to make a mask that doesn't protect a worker?

Or create a part for a ventilator that fails on a patient.
