Mayo clinic is launching a cutting edge new way to learn about the virus.

It's called a serology test.

Covid immunity-vo-1 covid immunity-vo-6 it identifies the presence of a person's immune response to covid-19.

There are three purposes of this test.

First - to identify who has been exposed and is now immune to the virus.

Second - to determine who can contribute to the convalescent plasma program - which uses plasma from people who have recovered to treat those who have the illness.

And the third purpose has to do with the effort to develop a vaccine.xxx covid immunity-sot-1 this testing will also be critically important to see if people respond to a vaccine which is being tried in a way that we would expect in terms of having an immune response.

Right now - about eight- thousand tests are being performed each day at laboratory locations across mayo clinic's facilities.

That will be increased as soon as possible.
