Meat lockers are booming during pandemic
Meat lockers are booming during pandemic
People are stocking up on meat, and turning to local farmers to do it.

As more meat processing plants are closed because of coronavirus oubtreaks?

More consumers are turning to local farmers to buy their meat.

But as people scrample to stock up meat lockers are struggling to keep up.

Kimt news 3's isabella basco joins us live with out one business is adjusting.

Isabella?

Live you might usually get your beef or pork at your local grocery store..

But higher prices and limited selection have a lot of people turning to local farms. so much so that at least one area meat locker is booked solid trying to process it all.

At ody's country meats in spring valley... if you want to get meat processed... you'll have to wait until july for their next opening.

They tell me they have 3 times more customers than normal... as a result... prices are changing.xxx "you definitely save a lot, especially right now, used to be a lot closer, but ratio, now it's by far a lot cheaper buying it from the farmer, it averages to about 4 dollars and 50 cents a pound if you buy directly from the farmer, whereas just ground beef in a store right now is 6 dollars a pound."

Cody tells me consumers can save as much as 200 to 300 dollars on an animal... a whole cow..

Rather than buying it piec?

B?piece at the store.

Live in rochester ib thanks isabella.

Even if it's cheaper?

It might not be helping to buy in bulk.

Getting the basic necessities instead of stocking up could help prevent a shortening meat supply./// here's a live look over mason
