Local tutors continue to offer their services through virtual platforms to keep students focused on their school curriculum and alleviate parents working from home.

Parents are playing extra roles now that kids are out of school for longer than expected!you may feel like you're the cook, the maid, and even the teacher, all while you'll working too.

Fox 55's mallory beard tells us how some local tutoring services are helping students stay on the ball, and keeping parents balanced too.

Children learning from home during the covid-19 shutdown has become a tough equation for many local parents to solve on their own.

.

Jen//fort wayne parent "like many parents i am trying to bend my work schedule with my kids' school schedule, but then also trying to keep my kids motivated to continue with their schooling even though the setting in which that's taking place is drastically different than what they're used to."

Thankfully, tutoring services are still kate mcdonald//owner of dyslexia tutor fort wayne "we do one-on-one lessons, and that have continued throughout this pandemic time."

Kate mcdonald tutors students with dyslexia in the fort wayne area.

At first she and her staff worried virtual learning would cause problems for some students.

But she says the outcome has been refreshing.

Kate mcdonald "it was a bit of a challenge for us to transition to that as quickly as possible and change up the way we've been doing it, but the students have responded wonderfully."

Parents say they appreciate the help.

Since many are working from home, they get to see their children's lessons firsthand.jen//fort wayne parent "since she is doing them online, and since i've been able to see and hear that, i've gained a whole new level of appreciation."

The literacy alliance of fort wayne provides language classes to adult students who maybe didn't graduate high school or are learning english as a second language.

But a lot of these adults have children who need help with school work.

Francine liebhauser//the literacy alliance fw teacher "there are certain challenges that our students face.

And now of course they're homeschooling their own children.

And now they're having to teach their children things they've never learned before.

So now they're learning alongside their children."

And during a pandemic, that can be difficult.

Francine liebhauser//the literacy alliance fw teacher "now that they are not only students but also teachers, teaching things that they never learned in the first place."

But with online classes three times a week.

And sessions children can even jump in to read with their parents, the literacy alliance staff know their services are crucial to keeping their students engaged...and together.

Francine liebhauser//the literacy alliance fw teacher it's very challenging for them, but they are rising to the occasion and doing their best, but we do look forward to the time where we can be back in the classroom again."
