Women's shelter collecting tracfones

The shelter is collecting the phones to provide more options for those that might be in an abusive situation.

For anyone who hasn't experienced it... it's easy to assume getting out of an abusive situation is as easy as picking up the phone and calling ??

But being at home with an abuser means fewer chances to get connected with help from law enforcement.

Jeannie thompson with the women's shelter and support center in rochester tells me that's why the shelter is asking for tracfone donations.

Thompson says the phones are partially needed to help kids have access to the internet while doing schoolwork from home..

But another reason is because abusers are checking their partners cell phones?

Meaning they can't call for help without potentially making their situation "so if we can provide them a phone that they can have and shut off the ringer or whatever?

They've got a phone in a dresser, in a book bag, in something that isn't a normal spot.

They would be able to access help if they need it."
