April is fair housing awareness month.

Right here in fort wayne local organizations are teaming up to end housing discrimination and making sure everyone has an opportunity for home ownership.

Fox 55'sjentill neal tells us about the lutheran foundation providing funds to help another organizations effort to make this happen.

Hunter, this is very timely.

There's plenty of people looking for homes and plenty of people trying to find their way right now, but for single women with mental health issues it's even more challenging.

There aren't many places a woman can go when dealing with mental health conditions and subtance abuse.> 21:00:59-21:01:13"they come to us many times with no income, very little personal items and so the gifts we receive go toward supporting those women until they're able to live independently again."cedars hope housing however is giving women a route to stability.

Residents get case and medical management as well as transportation assistance.> 21:02:05-21:02:23"it's been really important for us to get support from the community especially during the covid situation.

We know women are not only experiencing homelessness and unemployment but also high levels of anxiety and depression."with $25,000 from the lutheran foundation 25 more women will get help this year.the ceo of the lutheran foundation says no one should be discriminated against because of health issues.<marcia 21:06:47-21:07:04"anyone with a serious mental illness deserves the opportunity to have stable housing like the rest of us.

If you know of someone this could be benefical for they must be 18 years old or older, single with no dependents, homeless or at risk of being homeless and diagnosed with mental illness.
