The Paradise Animal Shelter has operated at capacity ever since the Camp Fire, but accomplished a feat they never have before.

Paradise continues recovering from the camp fire on top of the coronavirus pandemic -- its animal shelter has some good news... action news now reporter brandon benitez has more... <after operating at capacity -- and even sometimes above capacity -- the paradise animal shelter is finally empty... if you come to the paradise animal shelter -- the only animals you'll see right now are supervisor jen robbins' pair of pups... cages once filled with dogs -- and cats -- are now home to stuffed animals at the moment... they've come a long way since since the camp fire... in november of 2018 with the devastating fires, myself and two other animal control officers were working the day of the fire and probably 18 hours day after the fire for months and months with search and rescue efforts and we were beyond full capacity.

18 months later -- robbins and her crew acheived the unthinkable... forever homes for all their animals... we've had people from all over come in, we take special precautions of course.

We wear masks and gloves and keep our six foot distancing.

We decided that with the quarantine process we're closed to the public but we're allowing people to make an appointment so that we just do a one on one interaction and it's proven with that decision to adopt all of our animals out and it's the first time in the paradise animal shelter history that we've cleared out the shelter.

But nothing lasts forever.

Robbins says it won't be long before animals come back.

In the meantime -- they're renovating the space... adoptions during the stay-at-home order have helped.

Shelter's are always concerned with animals that have been returned... that's why robbins stays committed to providing education and a screening process for incoming adopters... in paradise brandon benitez action news now coverage you can count on... robbins says those renovations include a new dog play area, a brand new washer-dryer, and much needed paint job..
