High school seniors reflect on job market amid pandemic

As the pandemic has taken control over the workforce, students are left wondering what the next chapter holds.

This is the time of year high school seniors are typically looking for jobs... ready to take the next steps in their lives.

Kezi 9 news reporter kennedy dendy spoke to some seniors to find out what theye noticed and if their plans have been changed.

Ana:?my plan was to work throughout the summer, and then obviously go off to college, but i was furloughed off my job until they open up again?

It been an unexpected series of events for high school seniors over the last few months and for those just wanting to save money for the next chapter, a new reality came quick.

Ana: right now i'm just caretaking my sister who's younger, and then hopefully by sometime near sometime in the near future a job will open up?

But that's not a guarantee.

The covid pandemic has cut deeply into?traditiona?

Summer jobs that many teenagers relied on.

Bridge: and for isaac vasquez, he now shifted his focus to getting ready for his college journey and to be prepared as best as he can for the entirely new and unfamiliar chapter that ahead.

Isaac: my mindset been kind of about moving forward.

Just not thinking about missing the ending of our senior year?

Vasquez also weighed in on the difficulty of finding a job during times like this.

Isaac: more people are gonna be more cautious about who they interact with.

So those jobs are definitely gonna be more limited and to get there."

But at the end of the day, they recognize that taking it all one day at at time&.is what matters most.

Ana: focusing on what i can, i can control, and what i can kind of get ready for college.

And then not trying to overtake it much more than that?
