Pajama Sales Increase 153% During Pandemic

In addition to everything else it has already changed, the indoor conditions brought on by coronavirus is changing how we dress.

New at five.... the coronavirus pandemic is impacting everyone's life in one way or the other... and it's changing the way a lot of us dress.

New numbers show since the start of the pandemic...pajam a sales are up 143 percent while pants sales are down thirteen percent.

Waay 31's ashley carter is live inside the pants store in downtown huntsville where the store may be named for pants but it's all about pajamas right now.

The store manager told this is where most customers spend a lot of time right now.

The lounge wear section.

She said they just re-stocked because pajamas and lounge ware are basically flying off the rack.

Caitlin gullatt, pants store manager: "with covid everyone's just lounging around the house."

This is why caitlin gul- let....the store manager for the pants store told me she believes their pajama and loungewear sales sky rocketed in the last month.

Caitlin gullatt, pants store manager: "we've had a ton of people coming in and just wanting anything comfortable.

No jeans.

They want just t-shirts, sweatshirts pull overs all of that."

Gul-let said with the stay at home order.

And people working from home.

About two-thirds of their sales are now loungeware!

Caitlin gullatt, pants store manager: "with mother's day it was a big hit, every woman every mother just loves the pj's it's luxurious it feels good it's cozy and then of course with covid everyone's just hanging out so we did have a big increase in sales."

Gul-let said because of the name...they still have a lot of customers coming in to buy pants....so they're pants sells haven't really taken a hit.

And she said the increase in pajama and lounge wear sales is something they're monitoring when doing inventory to make sure they keep enough in stock caitlin gullatt, pants store manager: "we just had to completely re- stock on everything we have which is exciting for us."

Gul-let said it's only been a week since they re-opened the inside back up to the public business has been steady but they also have an online store where customers could purchase their pajamas as well which contributed to the increase as well.
