Cleanup is now underway here in church point after sunday evenin's deadly tornado that left several homes completely torn apart.

Many families now without homes.

Now the community comes together to try and get into recovery mode.

"it could have been worse.

But people lost everything last night."one person was killed and at least nine others injured during a tornado in acadia parish ..... w officials are figuring out how best to clean up the damage left behind.

"we do have our oep director out here who is trying to work with the state, whether i's housing or whatever we need to do from that aspect.

W're also working g with red cross too.

S we are out on the ground with folks trying to make sure to take care of folks who are in need and get them situated the best way that we can."at least ten homes were damaged ... a few of which were completely destroyed ... leaving folks trying to salvage whatver they can.now you can clearly see the stark difference in damage by looking at the precision at a tornad's path.

On one side of me you have a home, mostly spared besides some flying debris.

On the other side of me you have a home torn apart; thrown from across the street, and as neighbors told me, it happened at just the blink of an eye."as fast as it came, it was gone.

And...chaos everywhere.

People screaming..."neighbors like justin verdin immedietly sprang into action ... running towards desperate cries for help ..."i did't think.

I just reacted.

We started helping the neighborhood.

People came from everywhere - started to help out."this sense of community has been seen in the hours since the storm ... with lp coming from all over the parish."w're in a pandemic right now and their still out here trying to help.

That speaks volume for our residents."well in these uncertain times amid the coronavirus pandemic, this is the last thing these folks needed.

I's going to be a long road to recovery.
