Oneonta mayor informs council the city is ready to move forward to phase 2 of reopening following coronavirus shutdown.
With other regions in theohawvalley... toot steps last friday in getting things back to normal during the coronavirus pandemic.
But as oneonta mayor gary herzig reminded the common council during its bi-weekly meeting... those were just baby steps.
Herzig updated the council on what to expect in the upcoming weeks as the city and especially local businesses anxiously await to reopen.
Otsego county hasnt had a new coronavirus case in 20 days....the mayor says the city was in good position to begin phase 2 of reopening the city and business community on may 29.
However he's not sure what businesses will be able to open and under what guidelines, stating the governor's office is still working on that.
"right now there's a lot of people speculating that beauty parlors will be opening, but none of that is certain yet.
We really don't know, so anything you hear is gross speculation."
The mayor also informed the council that there are still no plans to reopen the two local colleges.
He hopes to have better news following a meeting later this week with presidents from all the mohawk valley colleges and a representative from the governor's executive chamber.
