Mike Bloomberg is shaking up his digital political company Hawkfish.
Bloomberg laid off some staff and hired new executives as it prepares for the general election.
According to Vox Bloomberg’s team says the shakeup was a long time coming.
Bloomberg's company is bidding to lead the digital operation of the presumptive Democratic nominee, Joe Biden.
On Friday the 100-person company laid off more than two dozen employees, primarily on its production and creative team.
“The staff needs of a focused political firm are different from a campaign team,” the company told Vox in a statement.
The Biden campaign has been debating whether to bring on Hawkfish to run its digital operation.
It's a decision that has been highly controversial in Democratic politics.
The Democratic party would have to hand control of its digital operations and mailing lists to an outsider.
