--- the irony of all of this is that doctors say the illnesses these vaccines are preventing -- can be more serious and potentially deadly for children -- than covid-19.

I'm here at eugene pediatric associates -- where there have been very few cars coming in and out --- something one pediatrician tells me is*very concerning.

The american academy of pediatrics has seen a very concerning drop in the number of children who are being vaccinated across the country.

There's been a 50 to 70 percent drop in vaccines for illnesses like the measles and whooping cough.

Closer to home -- at eugene pediatrics associates they've seen a twenty percent drop.

Doctor pee-lar bradshaw says although she understands parents concerns -- this trend is startling.

"the fact that vaccine communicable diseases do not care if there is a pandemic they still are an issue and oregon is one fo the lease immunized states so for us it's a big concern" she says if parents are concerned they should call their provider to see what measures have been put into place to keep everyone safe.

Doctor bradshaw says without vaccines the possibility is very real that your child could get a potentially life threatening illness.

She also wants to remind parents whose children are in school -- that not vaccinating them could prevent them from participating in certain activities.

Coming up on kezi 9 news at six -- hear why vaccinations are crucial to preventing outbreaks like the measles -- something lane county is very familiar with.
