FWCS officially names new superintendent

The Fort Wayne Community Schools Board of School Trustees officially introduced Mark Daniel as the next superintendent.

Thanks for joining us.tonight... fort wayne community schools ready to change their top spot.the school board announced doctor mark daniel will be the schools new superintendent.fox 55's chris mullooly is live outside the fort wayne community school administration building.so chris... why was he chosen??

Hunter... each board member was able to speak here during a special board meeting to approve the superintendents contract.each saying they liked the local roots he has...he was a student at northside high school and principal at leo... liked his ability to connect to students... and his experience as a teacher and administrator.

Dr. daniel tells us...he's ready to get to work.

?nats?a nearly year long process... taking its final steps tuesday.fort wayne board members approving the new superintendent of fort wayne community schools contract... and making it official.they were good convos about who we wanted as a super who we wanted as a leader the future of fwcs looked likeboard president julie hollingsworth says the decision wasn't an easy one.the board inititally brought its list of candidates down to six..

Than three... before landing on daniel.when he takes over as super he's already familiar with community, educators, a couple of supers in the areadaniel's roots as a student and educator start in fort wayne.

He's a graduate of northside high school...eventually coming back years to teach math and business.this is probably the least change agent we would experience and i think this is the best place he went on to teach for more than 10 years at northside... eventually going over to leo junior and high school as an assistant principal..

Than principal.he made the jump up to superintendent in 2010 at a district in southwest michigan before heading to illinois for the same position.we need to have a culture in our building that supports students and learning and i think as a super its taking it to another level you need a district that each student is importanthe says his short and long term goals are to be honest.... build a support system..

And do what needs to be done for the students...building off of outgoing superintendent... doctor wendy robinson."merely stand on her shoulders what shes done over the last 17 years " the superintendents contract will start on july first... which is the day after superintendent wendy robinson will retire.
