Newswatch 12's alicia rubin talked with jackson county public health.

She joins us live with more on how the impact the rise in cases could have on entering phase 2.

Under current guidelines for reopening, phase 2 hinges on a few key things -- no spikes in cases is one of the big ones -- so what is considered to be a spike and has jackson county seen one?

In my conversation with jackson county public health today, health promotion manager, tanya phillips said she doesn't see this increase in cases being an issue that would prevent us from entering phase 2.

Oregon health authority isn't only looking at the number of cases, they're also looking at contact tracing and testing overall.

"as a community were doing a good job making sure that were able to test people--butted--being able to do the contact tracing plays a big role in that as well and overall i think jackson county is doing well that being said, jackson county public health also said as the county has entered phas 1 they have seen more gatherings and more people traveling - which does have risk attached to it.

Phillips said it's important for people to remember that there is no vaccine for this virus so the besand only way to prevent it is by following preventative measures like social distancing, hand washing and wearing masks.
