Utica's parks reopen

On Monday all of Utica's public parks reopened with new guidelines.

Those include wearing masks when 6 feet of distance cannot be maintained and social distancing.

Major parks today.

News channel 2's brent kearney spoke to city officials about the new guidelines parkgoers need to know about.

"the parks are open as we have seen under certain restrictions.

Certainly not at the level they were last year or the previous years."

Utica mayor robert palmieri said reopening the city's parks has been a long time coming.

But said park goers need to abide by the new rules in place.

.

None .

None "its cleansing hand sanitizing social distancing wear your mask if you cant be more than 6 feet from someone."

"but it now does give the kids and the youth to interact a little bit more with some of the programs by the guidelines we're able to introduce them" the mayor says the parks will be operating as normal.

Currently, their open from 11 to 4.

But the mayor says those hours can be adjusted if it comes to that.

"it'll be good to see kids getting out there and being active.

Socially interacting and obviously social distancing.

So i'm glad to have some sort of a normalcy."

The mayor says at this point, the recreation spots that the state has allowed to open are open.

But says due to the strict guidelines the pools will remain closed... for now.

"that is a wait and see but at this point we are not opening them up and we're looking at the guidelines."

"as the warm weather moves in, i spoke to one family that is just elated that they have a spot for their kids to go and cool off.

That story coming up at 6.
