In our top story at 11... a video of a white woman telling a black man she'll hang him is quickly gaining views on social media....bringing even more attention to an already heated debate over a confederate statue in front of the anderson county court house.

Abc 36's monica harkins breaks down the apparent division in lawrenceburg.

### "bystander: get out of his face please, patsy: i'll hang you.

Jalen: do it, you'll hang me?

Bystander: you'll hang him?!

" it's in this short clip outside of monday night's lawerenceburg city council meeting that jalen lee says patsy kays bush said to him "i'll hang you" as she walks by.

It's hard to hear in the clip ...but lee says it's not something you forget.

"jalen: i think i legitimately went into shock."

The video continues to show a back and for oth as other people defend lee and people try to defend kays bush.

"patsy: if he ever fbleep comes into my yard.

Bystander: why would he do that?!"

I reached out to her on facebook but she didn't get back to me.

Lee says he was disappointed it happened, but wasn't surprised.

14:35 lee: "but never to that degree of violence have i ever before had someone threaten my eyes - threaten my life - in front of my own two eyes."

This skirmish in front of the courthouse only highlighting how tense people say it is in town right now.

Holly harrison- hawkins says in early june she noticed an armed group guarding a confederate statue of an unnamed soldier during a black lives matter protest.

It motivated her to start a petition to remove it...which had nearly 800 signatures as of tuesday night.

O holly: "that's the truth that people don't want to hear.

They were fighting to keep african americans enslaved."

A counter petition to keep the statue...claiming it's a part of history....has about double the signatures over 15- hundred...though it's unclear whether those are all from people living in lawrenceburg.

The woman who started it...marcella pittman...didn't want to appear on camera, but says a majority of the people in the county want the statue to stay put.

Lee says he doesn't even feel the statue needs to be destroyed, but at least relocated.

"jalen lee: it's how it makes the people feel they have to see that every single day and be reminded of the brutalities that my ancestors faced on a daily basis."

The fiscal court is the entity that has the power to actually remove the statue...it met tuesday morning...heard public comment on both sides... but ultimately didn't take a vote.

Jason lee: i am frustrated because i feel like the only reason there was no real decision is because they don't know what decision is going to be the most popular in the long run.

So the statue stands...at least for now.
