Purdue dining halls moving to carryout only

Dining halls are among the latest facilities on Purdue University's campus to introduce new regulations due to the novel coronavirus.

Purdue plan.... the gold and black say students are not allowed to eat inside the dining halls anymore the university is now requiring them to take their meals to go in an effort to reduce to spread of the coronavirus.

As news 18's balint szalavari reports, students are happy to see the university working to keep them safe.

Rangel: "they're taking a lot of measures to make sure we're all safe here."

As part of the protect purdue plan, dining halls are now only offering carryout meals.

With indoor seating closed, students like zachary rangel will either have to eat in their dorms, or outside.

He says he welcomes such changes.

Rangel: "i think it's very effective cause we just take it out and we social distance outside when we eat our food."

According to rangel, several changes are noticeable, such as having to sanitize your hands when entering a dining hall.

Rangel: "they have x's on the floors and stuff so we're social distancing in there.

Everyone's wearing masks."

Other students like david rothenberg find the new rules to be a bit of an inconvenience.

But he says it's something everyone on campus will have to deal with until things get better.

Rothenberg: "i'm optimistic that there will be dine-in options in the future, but for now i think it's definitey the right choice."

And rothenberg says it's these types of changes that are allowing students back on campus.

Rothenberg: "i'm glad that they're able to have us on campus and i'm glad that they're doing what they can to keep us safe."

Purdue plans to gradually allow students to eat in dining halls when campus leaders say it is safe to do so.

Additional retail locations have also been across campus where meal swipes are accepted to help limit overcrowding.
