Even though the number of confirmed cases in Otsego County is low compared to surrounding counties, the Village of Cooperstown announced it would be increasing its enforcement of state health guidelines.

Called for a special board meeting regarding the village's covid-19 compliance.

Village officials say they've received numerous complaints regarding people not wearing masks along main street.

News channel 2's brent kearney reports on some of the changes that could be coming to the village.

"that's absolutely ridiculous, there's no problem putting your mask on."

Alot of the residents in cooperstown share her opinion.

But their are still a few people that come into the village and refuse to wear a mask.

None "not just me but several of our board of trustees have receievd emails concerns about the number of visitors.

Our tourism has picked up on the village of cooperstown on our main street.

We want to make sure everyone is complying by the rules."

During today's meeting trustees confirming a statement from the board saying the village will be enforcing the state health guidelines.

During the meeting trustees brought up ideas to better protect village residents one idea to introduce a village law mandating people where masks along main street.

Due to the streets narrow sidewalks, the village says its difficult to social distance.

Before the law can be put in place the mayor says it has to go through a process.

"we have to have a law written and i have a board member working on that.

Then it has to be available and advertised for ten days before their can be a public hearing."

The village also announcing a safety station in pioneer park, that will have masks and hand sanitizer for those that dont.

"the whole idea is to keep the disease as under control and as manageable as possible.

So anything they can do to do that is great."

"now currently here in cooperstown there's only one active case of covid-19.

The mayor says these new meausres are to ensure people dont get complacent."

"i think people can get lax if they think we're doing well and we are doing well.

We want to ensure that everyone coming to our community sees the importance of abiding by the mask and social distancing regulations.
