A mother speaks out about Okolona's back to school plan

Ramona Hall said even though the district released its plan, she doesn't believe they can ensure the safety of students and staff.

Place monday at 9 am the okolona school district released how administrators are going to navigate the upcoming school year today.

The back to school plan is broken up into three sections.

Substantial, moderate, and low spread.

If there are no coronavirus cases, schools will continue traditional learning.

Administrators will require students and staff to wear masks and follow social distancing guidelines.

If the spread is minimal or substantial , students will have to switch to virtual learning.

Wtva's alexis jones spoke to a parent and she shared how they feels about the district's layout.

A mother from okolona is speaking out about the districts plan for the upcoming school year.

Pkg: sot: "our children are very important an so are our educators.

They're very important.

I think that their lives should matter" vo: ramona hall's daughter is in the 7th grade.

Hall said even though the district released its plan, she doesn't believe they can ensure the safety of students and staff.

Sot: "i still think it's unsafe.

I really do."

Vo: hall's daughter has multiple health conditions.

She's planning to keep her daughter home and enroll her into the district's distance learning.

Sot: "her being exposed to the covid 19 would be detrimental to her ."

Vo: but she feels there are still some disadvantages to virtual learning.

Sot: "some people don't have access to the internet so that's a problem.'

Vo: this mother said she doesn't understand why the district is in a rush to reopen schools.

" if i was a state leader i would honestly just put it off for awhile and you know, let this virus die down."

Chad spence said although the plan gives an hybrid option, administrators decided today to only have traditional and virtual classes.

He also said the first day of school is august 10th but it might be pushed to two weeks after.
