"* i'm here at sumner elementary school where students wrapped up their first day back in class.

The state allowed schools with summer sessions to choose between a hybrid or distance learning model.

Sumner opted for a hybrid ?

"* shortening the school day monday through thursday and keeping kids at home on friday.

Principal sheila berger has had more than 30 first days of school as an educator ?

"* but none hae been quite like this one.

Despite the first day looking a bit different than normal ?

*- she says students and staff are adapting quite well.

Classrooms must be at 50 percent capacity ?

"* traditional classroom spaces.

Families did have the choice to opt out of in?

"* and if they have a medical condition or teachers are used to thinking fast on their feet and being flexible so im blessed to work with a lot of people who just want to do whats best for kids and right now thats what we're trying to do.
