Hwy 99 reopens, CHP investigating fatal crash

A police chase ended in a deadly crash south of Chico Thursday night, shutting down Highway 99 for several hours.

Alan, highway 99 is shut down in both directions between highways 149 and 162 as officers investigate.

The crash happened here just north of nelson road on highway 99, north of gridley and you can see it's still an active scene.

A chp officer on scene told me this all started around 6pm, north of here as a case of wreckless driving, southbound on 99.

When a chp officer tried to pull the car over, the driver sped off.

There was a chase, but the driver lost control, crashing here, just north of nelson road.

Right now they are not saying who the driver was, but that person died on scene.

Investigators say they will remain on scene for at least another hour or two say they'll be out here for about another 1-2 hours.

They are directing traffic over to hwy 70.
