"indiana state police" is facing "a lawsuit" from "the american civil liberties union of indiana".

It's on behalf of several terre haute organizations.

//////// /////// susie... this all stems from the federal executions that took place in terre haute in july.

Protestors against the capital punishment say i-s-p vioalted their first amendment rights.

The lawsuit is on behalf of death penalty action... indiana abolition coalition... providence of saint-mary-of-the-woods indiana... and other protestors.

They had planned to hold vigils in front of the prison during the time of the executions.

They say i-s-p put "significant" barriers in place before the execution.

And blocked roads leading into and out of the prison.

Forcing them to protest nearly two miles away from the prison.

The lawsuit claims that violates their first amendment rights.

We did reach out to indiana state police.

Their public information officer -- sargent matt ames says... it is their policy to not speak on pending litigation coming up on news 10 at 6 i'll have more on what the lawsuit is asking for future executions.
