EVSC's safety measures aiming to prevent a shut down

The pandemic shaking the foundation of our school system-- as students adjusted to life without going into a school building day after day-- it all shifts again for indiana students... a new routine is underway for everyone-- including teachers and staff.

44news reporter marisa patwa joins us -- tonight with a look how they are forming new habits to help keep evansville schools - open this year no one would have predicted a year ago that the senior class of 2020 ended as they did?

Evsc now welcoming students back after being out of the buildings since mid march "students are ready to be back you know they are always ready to be back i think for the first day of school when we are out for ten week.s imagine being out for five months."

School officials are hoping not to be next on the list of local districts opening in person for the fall semester -- only to shut down after a few days due to covid-19 cases with prevention measures like assigned seating.

"not only classrooms, but gyms, cafeterias, so if that were to happen, we could find out exactly who was sitting around that individual who tested positive.

Now while evsc says they don condone their students having large gatherings off campus, on campus, theye doing everything to make sure their students are safe including canceling all field trips and student assemblies.?hopefully that what happens outside in the community will mirror what wee doing within in our schools so itl be safe outside in the community just as it safe inside the school setting.

So we can get our seniors all the way through and they can have the commencement unfortunately the class of 2020 did not get to celebrate?

The superintendent says he knows he can stop it from coming in the buildings, but he can try and prevent it from spreading.?i can predict the future but what i can control is setting up structures and protocols within the school setting to keep our students and staff as safe as possible?

If things go as planned -- students with the last names k through z are scheduled to start school on monday reporting in evansville marisa patwa 44news and while the virtual learning academy has been an option for e-v-s-c
