Absentee Ballot

Like the primary.... the general election will rely heavily on mail-in ballots.

Voters were supposed to be able to apply for absentee ballots starting today.

Abc 36's cody adams explains why that has been delayed.

Absentee voting has been a major topic of discussion heading into the general election in november.

Governor beshear and secretary of state michael adams came to an agreement on an election plan.

Part of that plan was for the online portal to request an absentee ballot to be ready to go today.

Now if you went to the portal website to request your ballot today you probably noticed you couldn't do so.

That's because last night in a state election board meeting via zoom it was announced that the full launch of the portal would actually be pushed back to monday august 24th.

Board chairman ben chandler noted in these unprecedented times the board has to be able to go with the flow a little bit.

Ben chandler: i think we need to be prepared between now and the election as a board to ammend this effort and im prepared at any time to call a special meeting if any changes are necesssary.

After voting on a few new regulations and some changing of wording it was decided it might be a better idea to wait until monday so everything would be exactly as it should be.
