Disaster relief team rescues man from drowning in eastern India flood

A disaster relief team has rescued a man from drowning in flood-hit eastern India’s Odisha.

The rescue operation was carried out on August 27 by a team of the National Disaster Response Force in Bhadrak’s Bhandari Pokhari after Baitarani river breached its banks following continuous rainfall.

Visuals from the operation show the team on a rescue boat trying to locate the drowning man.

Upon spotting the man, they throw a lifebuoy ring towards him to help him stay afloat.

Two members in life jackets then jump into the water and help him get on the boat.

Seven people have died so far because of heavy rainfall and flooding, while two have been reported missing in the last three days.

In Balasore district, nearly 500 people residing in low-lying areas have been shifted to nearest schools and flood shelters.
