Joseph home... good evening, i'm madeline mcclain the newborn was found in a box with the unbilical cord still attached... kq2's danielle soxy gives us the details.... <<<police say a woman found newborn in a box on the doorsteps of her home on mack street around 6:20 this morning... the woman who lives in the home speaks little to no english and asked not to be identified...with the help of her son, he explained what his mother experienced this morning...son of resident: "when she was laying down, somebody knocked on the backdoor twice..

When she went out to see who was knocking, she turned on the light and noticed that the box was there.

When she opened the door, the baby started crying."

The woman said the umbilical cord was still attached, and that a note was in the box...written in spanish...son of resident "so when she noticed the baby was inside of the box, she noticed a handwritten note in the box with some papers and milk and everything.

She made 2 ounces of formula."the police arriving around 6:40....20 minutes after the baby was found.footage of a woman leaving the baby was seen on a neighbors surveillance camera, son of resident "they start checking all this information about on the house, the neighbors, around the cameras, everything.

They noticed a young lady walked back to the house and just leave the box and they go away and abandoned them i guess."but no one in the neighborhood recognized the young lady....st.

Joseph fire department spoke on the event...saying there are safe options for abandoning a baby...bill lamar "one of them is safe haven.

It's a missouri law that allows a newborn to be dropped off at a fire station or with a police officer."the law allows anyone to bring an unwanted newborn up to 45 days old to be dropped off without facing any criminal charges...bill lamar "if someone is in the position where they can't keep this child, this is kind of a last chance effort, instead of something bad happening to the infant, they can drop it off at the fire station, then we would in turn get with the hospital and make sure the child was cared for."
