Monday marked the first day of school for the Rome City School District.

The district decided to go fully remote for 6 weeks to air on the side of caution.

It's all remote....for six weeks.

As the covid report card goes live today, news channel 2's brent kearney spoke to rome's superintendent to get his thoughts.

Normally when when rome superintendent peter blake makes his rounds on the first day of school hallways and classrooms are filled with kids.

But for now those kids are learning at home.

.

None .

None "right now i havent seen any kinks on our end with technology we believe that theres a few families at home having a couple of difficulties but nothing major that's come up at this point today."

The only students in the building are children with special needs.

(nats) even though most students are home, the schools still need to report data to the state.

"what we are reporting to the state is the number of people that are in our facilities.

Both students and teachers and staff.

We also have to report students and staff that are learning off site so we have to report those everyday."

Since districts do not test for covid at schools, in order for them to report positive cases to the state, blake says the school needs to be notified of one first.

"our information is going to come through self reporting of a student or a staff member or the county health department would notify us that they tested a school employee that was positive.

Blake says the status of the virus come octor will termine howmany kidsr in person learning.

But teachers such as candace deroy says they cant wait for kids to come back "i'm so excited for them to come back i cant wait.

I think the school and the health department are going to do their job inmaking t it i'm excited.
