The mississippi highway patrol is recruiting right now.
Wtva's chelsea brown is live in new albany with what the requirements are to become a state trooper.
Sergeant gary stanton says it's highways like this new recruits could soon be patroling.
He says state troopers do more than just patrol the streets while wearign a highway patrol uniform.

"so the highway patrol has various opportunities throughout your career" station says there is a special opperations group who are involved in riot control and sometimes help out in prisons.
He says they have an executive protection branch who work as security for high ranking government officails.
Troopers are called on to assist other law enforcement offices with anything they need.
Sargent gary stanton says there are several characteristics people need to become a highway patrolman.
"three of the main things a trooper must have is a strong moral compass, to be physically fit, and the willing to serve."
He says some of the qualifications to become a state trooper is to be 21 years old with at least sixty college credit hours or to have military experience.
Stanton says the patrol will also look at candidates who are at least 23 years old and have a high school diploma or ged.
He gave some advice for the furture troopers once they make it through cadet classes.
"patrol school is designed to have a high stress environment so when someone does make it to the road one day they are accustomed to high stress environment and are still able to make accurate decisions on that."
