The Lafayette County Emergency Management Director warned the community, with coronavirus case numbers much lower than they were a few weeks ago, he wants to remind everyone to follow the guidelines to prevent the spread.

Im here in lafayette county and i spoke with the ema director earlier today.

He says with coronavirus case numbers are alot lower than they were a few weeks ago he wants to remind everyone to follow the guidlines to prevent the spread.

"about six weeks ago was our highest point."

The mississippi state department of health reports lafayette county ranks number ten with 2,736 total cases reported today.

Quarles says at one part there were a good number of active cases reported by medical testing.

"we had close to 440 estimated active cases in the county."

Emergency management director steve quarles says the cases numbers have dropped in the last few days.

"for the last week we've been somewhere around 110 active cases."

He says the county supervisors put guidlines in place like mandatory masks and madatory social distancing.

And he says it seems to be helping "we came down and now we're kind of running leveled for about the last week."

Quarles says right now masks are not mandatory in the county however they are recommended.
