Community uneasy after man shot and killed in Gridley

Police in Gridley continue to search for the person who shot and killed a man Sunday evening.

Police found the victim -- here -- near washington and laurel street.

New at 5-- action news now carmela karcher shows us how the community is coping.

Carmela karcher: "it was right here in this neighborhood when 37-year-old william dean tull of gridley was shot and killed sunday evening."

At around 6:30 sunday evening& gunshots rang through the streets.

Police responded to the scene to find tull with multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body.

After life-saving efforts&tull died from his injuries.

A neighbor who didn't want to be on camera said he heard about 14 gunshots that night before police arrived.

He also told me that it has been at least a decade since anything like this has happened in the area.

Many people here are disturbed.

Shana roles/local employee: "it's concerning& yeah.

It's kind of weird because i knew nothing about it.

Yeah& it's still a bit scary."

And while many are troubled& some are trying to reason why this would happen here.

Angela wakefield/local employee: "yeah that is a bit scary but i feel like in this area of town there is a lot of empty businesses or at least older businesses and so maybe it is a little easier for people to&i don't know&do things."

Investigators are still searching for the person responsible and motive behind the incident.

Carmela karcher: "i spoke with police and they told me they are still investigating and wanted people to know that if you have any information, to please give them a call.

Police still are not sure if this was a random act or an isolated incident.
