The 33rd annual Butte County Toy Run provides toys and gift cards to foster children.

Of it ... .## despite the pandemic an annual toy drive involving hundfreds of people took place to help kids in the foster system today.

Amy- 00-:06 "the 33rd annual butte county toy run started right here at the silver dollar fairgrounds in chico this morning."

((natt))) lisa salzmann- butte county toy run committee president :19-:33 "33 years ago terry jones who was a butte county foster parent approached pastor dave sweet who was our former committee president and the two of them decided although there were toy runs in the sacramento area we needed one here that served butte county ffoster children."

Lisa salzmann is now the butte county toy run committee president and says to participate riders bring either a toy or giftcard for children in foster care.

Lisa: "to allow for the families to be able to give children gifts at christmas time.

Everyone needs a gift at christmas time.

The funds that we raise are used all throughout the year.

The funds and the giftcards are used to meet foster childrens needs that are not covered by county need."

((natt)) salzmann says that can be for anything extra curricular... like sports or proms... also household items... and other needs that are not covered.

She says having this ride today was very important.

Lisa: "this particular run is really critical.

We do two runs a year,, a christmas and a july run, and we did have to forego that because of covid this year, so we were hoping for a decent turnout and the community answered."

Salzmann explained after leaving the fiargrounds the group will go to lime saddle.

Lisa: "then they will have a police escort up through paradise and to a church in magalia."

Amy: 1:43-1:55 "organizers told ation news now that the ride was still able to happen this morning despite the pandemic because it is an event that takes place outside, and riders were asked to wear masks and properly social distance.
