The movie is set in a fictionalized version of 1940s Shanghai and follows the story of a young man named Sing (played by Stephen Chow), who dreams of becoming a notorious gangster.
However, his attempts to join a powerful criminal organization are repeatedly thwarted, and he eventually finds himself embroiled in a war between two rival factions: the Axe Gang and the residents of a rundown apartment complex known as Pig Sty Alley.
