Harland Sanders was born in Henryville, Indiana, in 1890.
At the age of six, his father died, and he was forced to drop out of school in order to work and support his family.
He began his working life as a farmhand, and later held a variety of jobs, including: railroad fireman, insurance salesman, and electrician.
It was during his time as a salesman that he began to develop his now-famous chicken recipe.
