The toll due to a series of powerful earthquakes in Japan has risen to 57, with most of the fatalities reported in the hard-hit Ishikawa prefecture.
NHK World reports that officials from Ishikawa have confirmed the majority of the casualties in the towns of Wajima and Suzu on the Noto Peninsula.
