High school recently were awarded top national honors in the jrotc program.
The catch is because of the covid virus, the cadets were not allowed to go compete in florida.
The participants around the world had to video and submit their routines themselves.
News 12's david moore gives us a look at the ringgold jrotc program.
In this week's what's right with our schools.
Larry: when i got here in 2007 we didn't have a drill team.
We had a colorguard and it was kind of a make shift thing put together before i got here.
I recruited some kids and they, they bought into giving it 100% every practice and we won i think over 600 trophies total.
And about a 12 year..
Including 16 national trophies.
This year we got our first national championship.
Natural sound: kemper: i competed in national drill championships for solo armed exhibition.
Usually we go to the actual location in daytona florida and we compete with all the people there and what was so different this time is to be doing it at home.

Larry: kemper competed against about 62 out of every branch of the military.
And they narrow it down to the top 12.
Kemper: i placed 11th in the country and a couple other countries around the world.
And it really means the world to me to know that this hard work is recognize.
Because i'm just a regular old guy you know.
Natural sound: katie: well i competed in the nationals alternative armed drill team championship.
I competed in like, in the female group and i came up with a first place win.
When they told me i won i was actually sitting on my bed.
And one of the fellow cadets who is leaving for the army and we were watching the video and he just screamed.
He screamed we have a national champion ship and i sat down and cried.
I couldn't have been happier.

Larry: winning this national trophy is kind of a thank you that cadet allman date for the outgoing seniors.

Larry: and with them being sophomores it just speaks volumes of the leader ship abilities.
