4 p.m. Report - MHSAA delays start of fall sports by two weeks

The Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) voted Tuesday to delay the start of fall sports by two weeks.

High school football season.

The governing body for high school athletics just made a decision when that season will start.

As of today, there will be fall sports in mississippi.

However, the committee did decide to delay the season two weeks for all sports.

That means, football practice will start on august 17th instead of august 3rd with the first game on september 4th.

The games that would have been played in that two week period are canceled.

For other fall sports, like volleyball, swimming, and cross-country, they can start practice on the 10th with games starting on the 24th.

Games within the two week delay, can be made up in those sports, it's up to the schools.

Executive director of the mhsaa don hinton said that this decision was one of the hardest ones he had to make and didn't rule out the possibility of having to come back to the table prior to the adjusted start date.

We try to look towards the experts, but which expert do you look to?

We hear this, then we hear this contradictory.

We're going to in the end do what's best for our student athletes, and coaches and schools and if it changes then yeah we'll change.

There was a lot of back and forth about the start date, but one thing that did not come up was moving the fall sports to the spring.

I did ask hinton about the possiblity of fans in stands this fall.find out what he said tonight at 5.
