This morning -- we are hearing from local leaders as some major changes are coming to the largest school districts in north alabama.

Huntsville city, madison city and madison county schools will all start school remotely for the first 9 weeks.

One of the leaders on- board with the online distance learning plan is huntsville mayor tommy battle - who joins us now live via zoom.

Mayor battle - good morning tough call to go virtual schooling for at least the first 9 weeks of school - but you felt like it was the right call given the coronavirus case numbers right?

Two words you use when describing what we are going through - evolve and adapt..

What do tell those working parents who are being asked to juggle their schedules in already hectic times - who now have to keep their children home for virtual learning?

Totally understand the idea behind keeping children isolated at home in madison county- wide to slow the spread, but what good is it when you're trying to do the right thing here while surrounding counties / districts give the option of letting children go to school?

Perhaps some parents would ask - is it worth the sacrifice when folks from nearby counties or even states are not going virtual learning only?

How much of a risk is out there for a spread to madison county, even if everyone here is wearing the masks and keeping their children home from school?

Madison took the lead with mandatory masking - then the state followed.

Should the state impose 9 week virtual learning to try to contain the spread if this disease is this infectious?

Let's talk about the mask ordinance.

How do you feel it's working?

Do you feel like more saw the seriousness of the spike in numbers?

When people start seeing numbers go down, i wonder how much premature hope will set in - maybe they don't wear the masks as often.

How do send messages to not let your guard down?

Is that a legitimate concern that folks will begin to relax?

Quick question about the huntsville citizens advisory committee.

As you know - it was tasked to review events and decisions by police up to and during protests from may 30 to june 5.

The group is taking comments through august 7th - two weeks from now.

What will happen after that?

Huntsville mayor tommy battle - thanks for joiuning us.
