Many parents, teachers, and members of the communities have questions and concerns about schools opening back up in August.

Vigo County School Corporation asked a health official to answer your questions.

"we do not anticipate this will be a bumb free road.

We'll hit a few pot holes along the way."

As schools work on their reopening plans... many people are worried about health concerns.

Good evening and thank you for joining us.

Many school districts are working hard to make sure everyone is safe and comfortable going back to school.

The vigo county health department and the school district are working together to do that.

News 10's sarah lehman is live in our newsroom.

In tonight top story... she has more on what the district and health department did tonight -- to help.

The vigo county school corporation is constantly updating its back to school plan.

It's coming with a lot of help from the vigo county health department.

A lot of you still have questions about your childs health and safety.

Tonight -- the school and health department tried to answer some of those as parents stock up on school supplies and get their kids ready to go back to school.

They also have to keep in mind changes that come with it.

"school is coming up here really quickly we know that cases here are going up and you know parents our community has concerns about school reopening."

Bill riley is the director of communications for the vigo county school corporation.

He says school officials are in constant contact with the vigo county health department.

Monday night -- v-c-s-c sat down with vigo county health commissioner doctor darren brucken to talk about some of the concrns parents may have dr. brucken says the benefits to get kids back in school outweigh the risks.

"look at the reward of getting kids back in school in person instruction.

Not only nutrition, and supervision and structure and education and social interaction these massive benefits for these kids is far outweighed by the limited risk that we are all willing to endure from the public health stand point by bringing kids back."

Dr. brucken says the situation is very fluid.

And they are going to monitor it closely.

But -- he says if they follow procedures they have in place., they will be able to help control the spread of the virus.

"the schools have all pledged they are going to be very dilligent in helping us do these things.

We can control an outbreak even within a buidling, even within a classroom, even within a bus."

Wednesday -- is the deadline to decide what option your student will take.
